Rigel and the Witch Head Nebula by Mario Cogo (Galax Lux)

In case you lived under a rock for the past few weeks, let me break the news for you: a 72 year old man separates children from their parents and locks them up in internment camps. Sometimes it’s really hard not to think this world is completely fucked up. We take borders as granted. But it’s only our current way of organizing us as human that make borders. The question is here: How should we organize ourselves to collectively achieve a higher level of freedom? I think the web was one answer, but is now ultimately working against us. I now hope a greater privacy and decentralization movement will help us in our quest.

1. 📺 Back in the days, the US War Department released educational video to tell Americans not to fall for fascist rhetoric. It was in 1943, and Donald Trump wasn’t born at that time.

2. 📖 Have you read the Discworld? No ? You want to but you don’t know where to start? Here’s the Discworld Reading Order Guide 3.0 !

3. ❤️ Food is one of the most powerful link between cultures and people. I had the chance to eat at a restaurant participating in the Refugee Food Festival. There might be an edition in your town. And if there isn’t one, you can organize one in your city thanks to their methodology kit.

4. 😂 The Onion has declared war on Mark Zuckerberg and it’s SAVAGE.

5. 🎧 Get your fix of soulful abstract hip-hop with Alone Together by Karriem Riggins.

Kindness,

Marc

Salut,

Not much to read this week. I was too stressed with my talk at the Symfony Live. Anyway, here are some links I think are worth sharing.

  1. ? Kei Nishikori meets Nujabes: perfect hip-hop album for a rainy sunday.
  2. ℹ️ Elephants “smoke”.
  3. ℹ️ Resistance Is Futile. To Change Habits, Try Replacement Instead.
  4. ? I listen to a lot of punk and rock I can’t really put a label on. Amyl and the Sniffers – Cup Of Destiny, The Money Store – Death Grips, Eurgh! – Breakfast Muff, Massicot – Massicot.
  5. ?‍? ?? J’ai donné une talk au Symfony Live Paris sur l’Architecture Modulaire grâce à Symfony et l’écosystème Open-Source.
  6. ??? Allez au Bel Ordinaire à Paris, une belle place pour se restaurer !

Aloha,

What’s up? Doing good? Here are some links I think are worth sharing.

  1. ??? Cultivée plutôt que riche, la «classe ambitieuse» change le rapport à la consommation. Pourquoi la consommation de légumes moches a fini par compter davantage que la marque de notre voiture.
  2. ?‍? Sally West paints beach landscapes. She works on texture to create stylish renditions of white wash.
  3. ? Given you’re into architecture and unaffordable home, check out Netflix’s The World’s Most Extraordinary Homes documentary series. My favorite one is the one in the Arizona desert. What a view!
  4. ℹ️ ? A chilling reveal: 50 million Facebook profiles harvested for Cambridge Analytica in major data breach. They were used to break society and change the psychology of people, in order to change politics.
  5. ℹ️ ? Edward Snowden: Facebook is a surveillance company rebranded as ‘social media’
  6. ℹ️ ? #deletefacebook . “I would wager I use Facebook more to broadcast my ego than interact with real humans. And I suspect that most of us are in a similar situation”. You can use this nice browser extension to delete old facebook data. Don’t forget to ask for a backup so you get to keep everything.
  7. ℹ️ Autonomous vehicles, aka self-driving cars will change where people chose to live. As a result, ~$1 trillion of real estate is on the move … here’s why. (Hint: It appears it already started in the US)
  8. ? Suprême NTM – Anthologie. The best tracks of the french hip-hop group NTM. Perfect.
  9. ? I don’t really know why I like No Age – Snares Like a Haircut but I am not alone as Drowned In Sound‘s Marc Burrows explains it much better than me: “After 40 minutes you’re still not totally sure what it is you’ve listened to. This could be great, messy pop music, or just as easily be something you dreamt, dozing in post-coital bliss with a detuned radio in the background.“.
  10. ? I had a good laugh watching Ricky Gervais’ last show “Humanity“.

Aloha,

Here are some links I think are worth sharing.

In this week edition: A lot of music (from afro-latin electronic to hip-hop to unplugged guitar), tips to control your phone, some scientific insights about work, our addiction to convenience, and some impressive pie work.

  1. ? The afro-latin project Penya released their first EP “Super Liminal“. It’s good! It’s always a pleasure to listen to Run The Jewels.
  2. ? Do you want a downtempo hip-hop vibe? Listen to Milo – Who Told You To Think ??!!?!?!?!. Do you want to House club vibe? Dance to Peggy Gou – Six o Six.
  3. ? Take control of your phone. I started using my phone in greyscale mode and removed the clutter on the first screen. I hope it helps.
  4. ? Why “Deep Work” is Becoming a Competitive Advantage for Companies. Being a remote worker for many years and still having issues focusing, I fully support this article. We need better ways to work.
  5. ℹ️ “These findings suggest that stressful jobs have clear negative consequences for employee health when paired with low freedom in decision making, while stressful jobs can actually be beneficial to employee health if also paired with freedom in decision making.”
  6. ? ”If the first convenience revolution promised to make life and work easier for you, the second promised to make it easier to *be you.*The new technologies were catalysts of selfhood. They conferred efficiency on self-expression.”. Tim Wu delivers a spot-on analysis on the role of Convenience in our modern society.
  7. ?‍?? Lauren Ko’s pies are original and beautiful.
  8. ? I love OC Note’s work. He’s always surprising. His new album is innoncent and refreshing. Much needed. OC Notes – New Generation: Embracing the New Age

  1. ? NAS Performs “The World Is Yours” with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center.
  2. ℹ️ Honor as a cultural mindset affects cognition . Activating honor improve performances in hierarchical thinking, but not in tasks requiring nominal thinking. Honor is mentally spatially located upwards and to the right.
  3. ? If, like me, you are into warm and soulful house music, you will dig the vibes of Seven Davis Jr. Boiler Room set. Sweet disco love songs mix by Dj Spinna.
  4. ?‍???‍? Some impressive GIFs of VR graffiti using this very cool-looking video game available on Steam.
  5. ℹ️ German court rules Facebook use of personal data illegal and Facebook might have lost around 2.8 million U.S. users under 25 last year..
  6. ?‍? A very cool Origami Simulator.
  7. ? The decentralized future is coming and it will change our lives in more ways than the web did.
